Put a bucket under the drip and move furniture and electronics. If the ceiling is bulging, poke a small hole in the center to release the water before it collapses. Shut off the main water valve if you suspect a supply line leak and the drip keeps going.
If the ceiling is below a bathroom, the usual suspects are a failed toilet wax ring, a shower pan or valve leak, or a cracked tub drain. If the leak only happens when a specific fixture is used, that's a drain leak. If it drips constantly, it's probably a pressurized supply pipe. Roof leaks show up after rain; plumbing leaks don't care about the weather.
Our leak detection plumbers use moisture meters and cameras to find the source with the smallest possible opening in the ceiling, then repair the pipe, joint or fixture. For active leaks, we offer 24/7 emergency water leak repair across Michigan.
