Insulate pipes in crawl spaces, garages and exterior walls. Disconnect garden hoses and shut off outdoor spigots. Keep the thermostat at 55°F or higher even when away, and open cabinet doors under sinks on exterior walls so warm air reaches the pipes.
Open the faucet so melting water can escape. Warm the frozen section with a hair dryer or heating pad – never a torch or open flame. If you can't find the frozen spot or the pipe is inside a wall, call us before it bursts.
Shut off the main water valve immediately and call for emergency burst pipe repair. We replace the damaged section and check the rest of the line for splits you can't see yet.
