The dip tube sends cold water to the bottom of the tank. If it breaks, cold water mixes at the top and you get lukewarm water after a few minutes. It's a cheap part and a quick repair.
Electric heaters have two elements. If the lower one fails, only the top of the tank heats and you run out fast. Sediment on the bottom of a gas heater insulates the water from the burner with the same result.
If the heater has always run out, it's simply too small. Options are a larger tank, a high-recovery model or a tankless water heater for endless hot water. We'll help you size it right.
